The People The Ylocanos, now Ilocanos or Ilokanos. Y- is a Northern Philippine language marker which means "people of". Hence, we have Ylocanos, Ygorotes, Ybanag. The Ylocanos are supposedly cove-dwelling or lowland dwellers. They are, to some outsiders, the Yankees of the Philippines for their hardy and pioneering spirit.
